We had over 300 competitors take part and we hope that each and every one of them enjoyed their day.
Thank you to our army of helpers: over 50 marshals, 11 kayakers, Clare Civil Defence, Clare County Council, An Garda Siochana, Home Share Clare, Brothers of Charity, Special Olympics Ireland, Ennis Track Club, CrossFit Ennis, I-Tri committee and the members, family and friends of Ennis Tri Club.
Thank you also to the residents of Ballyalla for receiving us so warmly and supporting the race.

Ennis Triathlon Club is proud to host the inaugural i-Tri Sprint Triathlon & Try-a-Tri races on Saturday afternoon July 26th in the beautiful surroundings of Ballyalla Lake.
The i-Tri course is a perfect race for newcomers to the world of triathlon as well as experienced triathletes who are chasing PB’s on this predominantly flat, fast course.
The Try-a-Tri will consist of a very managable 200 meter swim followed by a 20km cycle and a 4.5km run.
The Sprint Distance race starts with a 750 meter swim from the river mouth in the lake, swimming out into the centre of the lake and back to the slipway across from Lake View Stores.
-
The race entry fee is €45 for Sprint Distance and €43 for Tri-a-Try.
-
Relay Team entry fees are €75 for the Sprint Distance and €75 for the Tri-a-Try race.
-
You must have Triathlon Ireland membership or a One-Day-License (ODL) to race. For Relay Teams, at least one member must have Triathlon Ireland membership or a One-Day-Licence. The deadline to buy a One-Day-License (ODL), costing €20, from the TI website is midnight on Thursday, 24th July.
-
Registration will take place in the Auburn Lodge Hotel on Friday the 25th 19:00-21:00 and again on Saturday 26th 09:30-11:30.
-
The race takes place at Ballyalla Lake on Saturday 26th at 13:30. Transition will close at 13:00 sharp.
-
There will be a trial run, of both Tri-a-Try and Sprint courses, on Sunday 20th for anyone who wants to familiarize themselves with the course. Meeting at Ballyalla lake slipway at 11am. Bring all your tri gear and a spare pair of flip-flops.
-
A comprehensive race briefing is available here. This will be emailed out to competitors the week before the race.
Course maps for both races are available below.
A video of the full course is available at the bottom of the page.
The transition area will be located on the grass area behind the slipway.
The 20km cycle will proceed from the lakeside to Ennis Supply on the Gort Road, and then out to the Crusheen roundabout and back the same route to Ballyalla. This is a mainly flat open road with very little traffic as a result of the by-pass. We expect that some quick bike times will be put in here.
The 4.5km run will proceed from the lake side out the Ruan road to the end of Costello’s estate. Turn right here up Stonepark Hill towards the Gort road. At the junction, turn right towards Ennis. The last 2km of the run will be downhill which will produce some fast run times.
The race finish line will be at the car park on the Ruan side of Ballyalla Lake. We are confident that this will become a popular event in the Irish Triathlon calendar both with triathletes and spectators alike. The venue is fantastic for a triathlon, providing a mainly flat and fast course on the outskirts of Ennis. Ballyalla is also very accessible, just minutes from the M18 motorway.
Race registration will take place at The Auburn Lodge Hotel which is only a few hundred meters from the course. The hotel are kindly providing parking facilities on the day. As there will be no parking available along the route between the hotel and Ballyalla all competitors and spectators are asked to park at the hotel. Prize-giving will be held there shortly after race finish and refreshments will be available for all competitors.
i-Tri will be a family friendly event with children’s entertainment and face painting. There will also be music and on-site gourmet catering.
SPLASH & DASH
We will also be holding two Splash & Dash races for kids on the day, starting at 12pm.
The Short Course Splash & Dash will involve a 50m swim followed by a 600m run.
The Long Course Splash & Dash consists of a 200m swim and 2.5k run.
-
The races are aimed at 5-15 year olds.
-
Entry is free for TI junior members or €5 for non-TI members.
-
Wetsuits are mandatory.
-
Registration will take place in the Auburn Lodge Hotel on Friday the 25th (19:00-21:00) and on Saturday 26th July (10.45-11.30am) at the Race Tent in Ballyalla Lake car park.
-
The race briefing will take place at the slipway at 12 noon on Saturday the 26th with the races commencing immediately after.
We would ask that all Juniors are pre-registered for the event by emailing ennistrijuniors@gmail.com by Thursday the 24th of July. As the number of participants are limited places will be allocated to those pre-registered on a first come first served basis.
