Ennis Triathlon Club is proud to host its sixth i-Tri Sprint Triathlon, Try-a-Tri and Junior races on Saturday July 20th 2019 in the beautiful surroundings of Ballyalla Lake (awarded Irish Green Coast Award 2017).
The i-Tri course is a perfect race for newcomers to the world of triathlon as well as experienced triathletes who are chasing PB’s on this predominantly flat, fast course.
We are delighted to be hosting a BMW National Series Sprint race this year. The sprint will start with a 750 meter swim from the river mouth in the lake, swimming out into the centre of the lake and back to the slipway across from Lake View Stores.
The 20km cycle will proceed from the lakeside to Ennis Supply on the Gort Road, and then out to the Crusheen roundabout and back the same route to Ballyalla. This is a mainly flat open road with very little traffic as a result of the by-pass. We expect that some quick bike times will be put in here.
The 5km run will proceed from the lake side out the Ruan road to the end of Costello’s estate. Turn right here up Stonepark Hill towards the Gort road. At the junction, turn right towards Ennis. The last 2km of the run will be downhill which will produce some fast run times.
There will also be a Try-a-Tri race which will consist of a very managable 200 meter swim followed by the same 20km cycle and a 5km run as the sprint race.
The transition area will be located on the road near the entrance to the slipway.
The race finish line will be at the car park on the Ruan side of Ballyalla Lake. The venue is fantastic for a triathlon, providing a mainly flat and fast course on the outskirts of Ennis. Ballyalla is also very accessible, just minutes from the M18 motorway.
Race registration will take place at Hassett's Bar, Barefield (located just off the motorway at junction 14) from 9am. There will be no parking available in the environs of Ballyalla on Saturday, so all competitors and spectators are requested to park in Ballymaley Business Park, approx 1.5km from Ballyalla Lake on the N18. Prize-giving will be held in Hassett's Bar shortly after race finish.
i-Tri will be a family friendly event. There will also be music and on-site refreshments.
